The superfood of the future: fonio

Fonio is a cereal, it is gluten-free, has a slight hazelnut aftertaste, can be used instead of rice, comes from Africa and is spreading in Europe thanks to an Italian company.

At the beginning of 2019, the study "50 Foods for Healthier People and Healthier Planet" had included fonio among the "50 foods of the future", which would be "excellent for the well-being of the planet and people".

Before that, at the end of 2018, the European Commission had approved the introduction and marketing of fonio in the EU, on the proposal of the Italian company Obà Food.
